Things to do in Falassarna
Falassarna is a long sand beach on Crete's west coast, about 16 km and a 25-minute drive from Kissamos, with none of the unpaved track that Balos requires and none of the protected-dune fragility of Elafonissi. It is a beach to spend an afternoon on, not a sight to visit: no old town, no ruin, no fort.
Swimming season runs May to October; the sea sits around 16-18 °C in spring and is noticeably warmer by late August and September. July and August bring the hottest, busiest weeks on the island, so an early arrival matters.
Sunbeds and umbrellas are rented from beach bars along the sand, priced per set for the day, but Greek law keeps a free strip and a clear path to the water on every beach, organised or not. Falassarna is best known for its sunsets over the open sea to the west.
