Things to do in Loutro and Chora Sfakion
Loutro has no road in or out: you reach this white cluster of houses on the Libyan Sea by boat from Chora Sfakion or on foot along the coastal path, and no rental contract will get a car to its front door.
Chora Sfakion, about 75 km and over an hour and a half south of Chania across the mountains, matters most as one of three boat landings for walkers finishing the Samaria gorge, alongside Sougia and Palaiochora, with a coach onward to the north coast.
Boats to Loutro and the Samaria connections run roughly May to October; outside that window, services thin or stop. When the meltemi drives the north coast rough in July and August, this Libyan Sea stretch is usually the calmer side of the island.
